What is the Military Kids Club?
The Military Kids Club is a national support group for the children of Service men and women and their relatives. The Military Kids Club brings together members of Service families aged between three and 18 years old from all over the country. Our members are ambassadors and young advocates for Service families across the United Kingdom, and most importantly, they are friends who are there for each other, especially in times of need. Any school can sign up to The Military Kids Club, read on to see how we operate our club.
(HMS Heroes has just changed its name to Military Kids Clubs Heroes MKC so watch this space for more information)
How does The Military Kids Club operate at Aiskew, Leeming Bar School?
The way we operate our Military Kids Club group has recently changed in our school. Our club is now run on a Tuesday lunchtime by a small group of children who are keen to lead and develop the group alongside Mrs Stones and Mrs Slator, the Military Kids Club co-ordinators. The club is for all children to attend, if they wish, and the emphasis is on children coming together if they’d like to be with others or want to join in with a fun filled activity!
We also offer help and support to children if a member of their family is deployed. We may write a diary for the time the family member is away or send eblueys. Most importantly children know there is an adult they can talk to if they are upset or just need a chat.
We have our own board in school where we display information on our service families and show work we produce in our club and photos of events we have attended.
What type of events do we attend?
We attend cluster meetings roughly every half term to meet up with other schools and Heroes in the area. At the meetings we hold discussions about what each school has been up to and plan future events. The following is a list of events we have held for the HMS Heroes in our school:
Tending the Thorpe Perrow Garden
Ripon Cathedral Service Pupil Service (annual event)
Creating canvases for the Ripon Cathedral service
To name just a few
