Mummification

We have been learning about mummification – how and why it was done – and have used the information to write some great explanations on this topic.  To help us really understand the process, we have started the mummification process of a banana.  On Friday, we carefully pealed a banana, ate the fruit and then placed the skin into a large bag of salt.  We are hoping that the salt (replicating the natron) will dry out all the moisture from the skin.  What will we find when we come into school on Monday?  Let’s hope it’s worked otherwise there will be a mess to clear up and possibly a rather horrible smell!  What do you think will have happened?  Did anyone check the skins before leaving school on Friday?
