At Aiskew, Leeming Bar CE Primary school we follow the National Curriculum for Maths.
The curriculum is divided into the following areas :
Number : place value;
Number: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division;
Number: Fractions (including decimals and percentages);
Ratio and Proportion and Algebra (for the oldest pupils).
Measurement;
Geometry : Properties of shapes; position and direction;
and Statistics.
Throughout all areas children learn how to apply the skills learned through reasoning questions and problem solving.
To improve mental recall of number facts we use a North Yorkshire initiative called SMIRFS(Space Mission Instant Recall Facts). Children are expected to practise these facts at home as well as at school.
The staff, in school, have established calculation guidance. This explains our approach to teaching calculations and is available on the website.
