Back in October, Eagles class wrote this wonderful, collaborative poem for a poetry competition run by Evans Cycles. The judge was Sir Chris Hoy. Our poem was chosen as the runner up! We are very proud! Here is the poem we wrote:
The BIG Race
I put my helmet on… click,
Ready for the start,
Feet in the pedals,
Boom boom goes my heart!
Pulse rate rising…
I hear the crowds scream.
“Go! Go! Go!”
Faster than a flash,
I make my dash!
Wheels whirring…
Wind blowing on my face,
At the speed of light,
I pick up the pace,
Not giving up the fight!
Pedals pumping…
Zig-zagging in the zone,
I see the finish sign,
Zoom zoom,
I sprint for the line!
Lungs gasping…
I entered the race,
But now I can’t look,
The thrill of the chase,
Have I got the golden cup?
Legs burning…
I’ve won the BIG race,
This feeling is the best,
Tears rolling down my face,
Now I’m ready for a rest!
I like it so much.
Poems are good for us to read at school in literacy.
