World War 1 centenary commemoration week

This week, all our learning in English has been centred around the Royal British Legion’s ‘Say Thank you’ theme. Children have been learning all about the sacrifices people made during World War 1, including the children. They then wrote superb thank you letters to those who gave up so much.

We enjoyed visits from the Royal British Legion, Armed Forces veterans (organised through a partnership with Age UK) and from current service men in the RAF (who are also our school’s governors).

We have learnt about the importance of the poppy and did a variety of art projects using this as a theme.

The week culminated in an act of remembrance where we listened and watched to the Last Post being played; did 2 minutes silence; and then listened to one of the thank you letter being read aloud.
